If any of you are having to fight with insurance, I gotta say - ChatGPT might be really helpful for you. After a fall and a hip fracture, my 90-year-old Mom's insurer (Kaiser) wanted to discharge her back to her home where she is 100% living alone ... after a mere 20 days after rehab and 28 days post femur head replacement surgery. All while she still can't stand/transfer to a walker or a toilet or anything like that (she could before the injury). Oh, and she caught covid while she was in rehab. The staff at the rehab facility have been helpful, but it's been up to me to file the appeal. I chose to do it online just so that I could choose my words carefully, but then it occurred to me - *ChatGPT is actually kind of good at this stuff*. Being a language model and knowing a lot more about Medicare, Medicaid, PT, etc. than I do ... I asked it to craft the exact language for the appeal of her discharge, so that it would land on key phrases like "risk of rehospitalization" that the external 3rd party auditor would likely tune in to. And it worked. Discharge appeal approved. Mom gets more time. But now the insurer has called me yet again and said they're going to try to discharge her again in 7 more days. So I took all the paperwork they generated from the first discharge - orders for in-home support, etc. and stuffed all of that into ChatGPT and it's helping me craft an even better appeal for a 2nd go-round if we need it. And it's doing a really good job at it. So if you're in the midst of fighting with insurance paper-pushers, use something like ChatGPT so that you make sure you know your rights and that you're not getting steamrolled by providers who are trying to manage to profit/loss targets ... and not the needs of your loved one.
