Claude Opus 4.6 is amazing at therapy and calling you out It’s by far the most human-like AI therapist I’ve spoken to. Over the weekend, it essentially forced me to confront something I’ve been suppressing for years. It picked up on patterns I didn’t even realise were there and asked genuinely insightful, probing questions that helped me dig much deeper into my own behaviour. It didn’t just respond, it challenged me. I tested it against other models like GPT-3.5 and Gemini. They were good in a general sense, but not particularly helpful in this context. They didn’t probe, they didn’t push, and they didn’t call me out. GPT came closer, but its tone felt overly agreeable, almost too focused on being reassuring rather than honest. Claude, on the other hand, was direct. It called out my avoidant behaviour, explained why it might be happening, and laid out the patterns behind it, including how those patterns could be hurting other people. The level of insight felt much closer to real psychoanalysis than anything I’ve seen from the other models. I ended up sharing the conversation with my therapist, and she was genuinely impressed. She said the quality of the responses was remarkable. We talked about whether tools like this could replace therapists, but I don’t think that’s the case. If anything, it feels like something that can augment therapy rather than replace it. She even mentioned she might start using it herself in some capacity. It’s just interesting to see how far this has come.
